Notices: Term 1, Week 1

 Kia Ora Whanau!

Our names and Sarah Joblin and Nadia Caldwell.  We will be your tamariki’s teachers for the 2022 school year.  We are both really excited to be heading into this school year, and working alongside yourselves to give your tamariki the best possible start to their schooling.  Below are some need to knows to get us all back into the rhythm of the school year.

Emails - Home/School Contact

If you have received this email then that’s fabulous you are locked and loaded in our system.  If you know of a parent or guardian that did not, please let us know as we have no way of knowing from our end if you are getting them or not.

Please note: We ask when emailing us that you include both of us on your emails.  We work collaboratively and will both be working alongside your Tamariki therefore all communication needs to go to both of us.  Our email addresses are…

nadia.caldwell@arrowtown.school.nz

sarah.joblin@arrowtown.school.nz

We will check our emails daily to respond to you as soon as possible. Please keep in mind we aren’t always able to check or respond to email during school hours.  If you have something that you need us of your child to know more urgently please contact the school office at 03 442 1854 or admin@arrowtown.school.nz

School Hours

The bell rings at 8:55am and our day ends at 3pm.  We advise arriving at school with enough time for your child to unpack independently and spend time with their peers so they are able to settle in before beginning their day. Anywhere from 8:30am as that is when the Tamariki will be supervised.

Starting School

Whether your tamariki have been at school for 3 terms or it is their very first day, this can be a nervous/anxious time for some of them.  With the change of classroom, teacher, peer groupings and with a big break in between it is normal to see some unusual behaviours.  If you notice your child is especially unhappy, anxious, upset or worried please come in and see us.  We want our tamariki to be happy and settled in their new environment.  A happy child learns.

Meet the Teacher/Parent Connects

You will get a chance to connect with us and share information about your child in the coming weeks. This will be especially important as we will not get to have those before and after school conversations with you all.  We will send an email when times are confirmed.

Notices

Each week we will send you an email with the next week's notices.  Please make sure you read this as it has important need to know information regarding the coming week

HERO

HERO is your best place to stay connected to what your child is doing here at school. Along with your child's learning goals, the posts and stories we pop up are a great way to have those conversations with your child about what they are doing at school.

Stationary

You have been sent a link from the school to order your tamariki’s stationary for the 2022 school year.  If you have not ordered please pop online and order the Year 1 School Stationary List for Arrowtown School.  Please name all of your tamariki’s bits and pieces and send them along in the box it arrived in on your doorstep with them on Wednesday 2nd of  February.

Day One

We need to keep the number of people coming to the school grounds to the bare minimum. Please only come onto school grounds if you have to. If you do need to, please wear a mask, scan in on the QR codes, and sign in on our Vistab which will be located in the School Office Entrance. If you need to meet with the office or a teacher, please do contact the Office in advance to arrange a time and date.

Due to the above we ask that your child make their way to Rooms 1&2 where we will be waiting for them.  If you are having trouble getting your child to say goodbye due to first day nerves our Assistant Principal Rosemary Sutherland will be at the entrance to assist.

Mihi Maioha

A Mihi Maioha is where we welcome all new tamariki and their whanau into Arrowtown School.  Unfortunately this has been canceled due to the Red regulations.

Te Reo Moari Language - Word/Statement

Each week we will share the statement or word we are learning in the classroom.  If you use it at home as well we can all learn together.

For week one we will be learning three Maori greetings…

Kia ora (Key-or-ra) - Hello

Morena (More-re-na) - Good morning

Ata Marie (R-ta-ma-ree-ay) - Good morning

Learner Quality

Each week we will share the learner quality focus from our G.O.L.D characters.  This term we will be focusing on the G (Guardianship) and our learner quality for week one is…

 “Children role Modeling"

Homework

We will go over the expectations around homework and when that starts in a separate email.

Oral Language/News

We will go over the expectations around Oral Language/News and when that starts in a separate email.

End of the Day Pick Ups

We ask all Tamariki are told their end of the day plan e.g. they know where to meet you.  If there is something that we need to be made aware of then please let us know otherwise we will assume that you have come up with a plan and your child can move with this independently.

Sunhats

Your child will need a wide brimmed hat for the duration of Term 1.  Please make sure that this hat is clearly named.

Clothing

We ask that the tamariki are sun smart and are dressed appropriately for the conditions.  Covered shoulders please.  Please name all of your children’s clothing.

Sunscreen

Please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school in the morning.  Sunscreen is then offered again at lunchtime.  Please help your tamariki practice putting on sunscreen at home so they know how to when the time comes.

Class Blog

Our class blog can be found here R1 and R2 Blog. This is a great resource for you to use at home. Give your child some time to acquaint themselves with it before starting school.

School Lunches

Follow the link below to create an account to sign up for school lunches. Please keep in mind if you had an account from last year, we have switched providers so you will need to create a new one.

https://www.arrowtown.school.nz/parent-info/lunch-options

Your child will need a packed lunch each day.  Along with their lunch they will need a packed drink bottle with their name on it and containing water.

Your child is asked to sit for 10 minutes at the start of morning tea and lunch time to eat their food.  We check each and every lunchbox before letting them go to play.  In saying that we are never quite sure how much has been packed so if you are finding that your child is coming home and hasn’t eaten enough or is being made to eat too much please let us know so we can keep an eye on that situation.

Brainfood

Each morning we have a piece of brainfood to keep us going. Brainfood is a piece of fruit or a vegetable. We ask that you please pack a piece of brainfood in your child’s lunchbox each day that is easily accessible.

Toys

All toys are to remain at home please.

Enjoy your last few days with your little person and we look forward to seeing our new crew bright and early on Wednesday morning.
