Notices: Term 1, Week 2

 Kia Ora Whanau!

We have had a really lovely first 3 days with our new team.  We are enjoying getting to know what they are about and building relationships with them.  We are looking forward to having some time to chat with all of you in the coming weeks at the Parent Connects.

Please read through this week's notices for all you needs to know.

Our Class Treaty

A treaty is an important agreement between a group of people.

We would like each of our Tamariki and their Whanau to contribute to this so we can discuss it after Waitanigi Day.  It would be awesome if you could have a chat around the dinner table over the weekend about how your child and you as their Whanau would like our class space to feel and be.  Once you have come up with a statement please click on the link below and add your statement to the doc along with your Whanau’s name.

Parent Connects

We are holding Parent connects over the coming weeks.  This is an opportunity for you to come in and meet us and share information with us about your tamariki.

Some of the questions we will be asking you are…

  1. How would you describe your child’s personality?

  2. What is your child’s favourite thing about school?

  3. What are your child’s strengths?

  4. What area/s would you like to see your child improve?

  5. What are you hoping for your child this year?

  6. How would you describe your child’s learning style.

  7. What motivates your child?

  8. What does your child do for fun outside of school?

  9. Do you have concerns you would like to share?

  10. Is there anything else you feel would be helpful to know?

Below is the link you need to book your time to meet with us.

Year 0/1 River Ramble

Weather dependent we are hoping to take the team to the River for a picnic and a play on Friday 11th of February.  We will send details of this in a separate email as we will need Whanau help.

Emails - Home/School Contact

We ask when emailing us that you include both of us on your emails.  We work collaboratively and will both be working alongside your Tamariki therefore all communication needs to go to both of us.  Our email addresses are…

nadia.caldwell@arrowtown.school.nz

sarah.joblin@arrowtown.school.nz

We will check our emails daily to respond to you as soon as possible. Please keep in mind we aren’t always able to check or respond to email during school hours.  If you have something that you need us of your child to know more urgently please contact the school office at 03 442 1854 or admin@arrowtown.school.nz

Stationary

Unfortunately two items of stationery were left off our list.  We would really appreciate you ordering the following items the A3 Carry File (link below).

Sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.

Oral Language/News

This term our learning focus is ‘Our Stories’.  Our oral language/news will be an opportunity for the tamariki to tell their own personal stories through a variety of different prompts e.g. their likes and dislikes, goals, friends and whanaua. Most weeks we will be sending home a simple sheet (in your child’s book bag) for your child to complete. We will be compiling these sheets each week and creating a book that will share each child’s unique and individual story. We ask that your child be the one to complete these with support when needed. Part of learning is having the confidence to give things a go and we find this is a great way to build that confidence. If necessary, please feel free to write underneath your child’s writing for clarification purposes.

Below you will find our oral language/news topics for Term 1 and your child’s day to share.  It is important that your child is ready to roll on their day as it is unlikely they can be caught up later in the week.  The prompt your child needs to do their news is in their bookbag.  Please send completed copy back in your child’s bookbag before their given news day.

Week 2 - Holiday News -Complete the Summer Snapshots sheet and tell us all about your holiday! Feel free to use photos, drawings, or a mix of both!

Please note: Holliday Snap Shot is in the bookbag to do over the weekend

Te Reo Moari Language - Word/Statement

Each week we will share the statement or word we are learning in the classroom.  If you use it at home as well we can all learn together.

For week one we will be learning three Maori greetings…

Kia ora (Key-or-ra) - Hello

Morena (More-re-na) - Good morning

Ata Marie (R-ta-ma-ree-ay) - Good morning

Learner Quality

Each week we will share the learner quality focus from our G.O.L.D characters.  This term we will be focusing on the G (Guardianship) and our learner quality for week one is…

 “Being Ready to Learn”

Sunhats

Your child will need a wide brimmed hat for the duration of Term 1.  Please make sure that this hat is clearly named and they are with your child every day.

Clothing

We ask that the tamariki are sun smart and are dressed appropriately for the conditions.  Covered shoulders please.  Please name all of your children’s clothing.

Sunscreen

Please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school in the morning.  Sunscreen is then offered again at lunchtime.  Please help your tamariki practice putting on sunscreen at home so they know how to when the time comes.

Class Blog

Our class blog can be found here R1 and R2 Blog. This is a great resource for you to use at home. Give your child some time to acquaint themselves with it before starting school.

School Lunches

Follow the link below to create an account to sign up for school lunches. Please keep in mind if you had an account from last year, we have switched providers so you will need to create a new one.

Brainfood

Each morning we have a piece of brainfood to keep us going. Brainfood is a piece of fruit or a vegetable. We ask that you please pack a piece of brainfood in your child’s lunchbox each day that is easily accessible.

Enjoy the long weekend, we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.
