Notices: Term 1, Week 3

 Kia Ora Whanau!

We have had a lovely week together.  We are trying to bridge the gap between home and school with posts on HERO (our reporting system).  We try to show a variety of activities that happen at school so you can talk about these with your child at home.

Thank you for your engagement so far with HERO. We like reading your comments :)

At the moment we are teaching our new team the new rules, expectations and routines that we have in our learning space.  This takes time.  We cannot begin to pull groups until we have a class that can work quietly and independently.  A huge focus is our Guardianship learner qualities, you will have seen the post we put up on HERO this week.

Reminder

Please include both of us in any correspondence that you send in.  It helps us with our organisation and keeps us all on the same page.

Or emails addresses are…

Library Day

Our library day is on a Wednesday.  Please make sure your child's books are in their bookbag read to go on that day each week.

Poetry Books

These come home on a Friday and we need them back on a Monday.  Thank you for help with this.

Bookbags

These need to come to and from school every day.

Athletics

We have started our Junior School athletics programme.  Please make sure your chil has suitable clothing that day each week.

Our Class Treaty

We are loving reading the treaty statement from each Whanau however we are still missing quite a few.   It would be awesome if you could have a chat around the dinner table over the weekend about how your child and you as their Whanau would like our class space to feel and be.  Once you have come up with a statement please click on the link below and add your statement to the doc along with your Whanau’s name.

Parent Connects

It has been awesome to meet some of our lovely Whanau this week at our Parent Connects.  It’s lovely to see where our Tamariki come from and hear your thoughts about them.  Thank you for taking the time to do that with us.  For the Whanau we are yet to meet below are some questions we will be asking you so prep those answers now :)

  1. How would you describe your child’s personality?

  2. What is your child’s favourite thing about school?

  3. What are your child’s strengths?

  4. What area/s would you like to see your child improve?

  5. What are you hoping for your child this year?

  6. How would you describe your child’s learning style.

  7. What motivates your child?

  8. What does your child do for fun outside of school?

  9. Do you have concerns you would like to share?

  10. Is there anything else you feel would be helpful to know?

Year 0/1 River Ramble

Weather dependent we are hoping to take the team to the river for a picnic and a play on Friday 18th of February, please let us know if you can make it.   Details went out in a separate email. We are looking forward to a day out together.

Stationary

Unfortunately an item of stationery was left off our list.  We would really appreciate you ordering the following items: the A3 Carry File (link below) or sending along a folder that your child’s art can be stored in for the year.

Sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.

Oral Language/News

This term our learning focus is ‘Our Stories’.  Our oral language/news will be an opportunity for the tamariki to tell their own personal stories through a variety of different prompts e.g. their likes and dislikes, goals, friends and whanau. Most weeks we will be sending home a simple sheet or activity  (in your child’s book bag) for your child to complete. We will be compiling these sheets each week and creating a book that will share each child’s unique and individual story. We ask that your child be the one to complete these with support when needed. Part of learning is having the confidence to give things a go and we find this is a great way to build that confidence. If necessary, please feel free to write underneath your child’s writing for clarification purposes.

Below you will find our oral language/news topics for next week and your child’s day to share.  It is important that your child is ready to roll on their day as it is unlikely they can be caught up later in the week.  The prompt your child needs to do their news is in their bookbag.  Please send completed copy back in your child’s bookbag before their given news day.

Week 3 -  All About Me -  A brown paper bag has come home in your child’s book bag. Please fill this bag with four objects that you can use to tell our class about yourself. Feel free to decorate the bag with your favourite colours and drawings of things you like.

Please note: Brown Bag is in the bookbag to do over the weekend

Te Reo Moari Language - Word/Statement

Each week we will share the statement or word we are learning in the classroom.  If you use it at home as well we can all learn together.

For week one we will be learning three Maori greetings…

Kia ora (Key-or-ra) - Hello

Morena (More-re-na) - Good morning

Ata Marie (R-ta-ma-ree-ay) - Good morning

Learner Quality

Each week we will share the learner quality focus from our G.O.L.D characters.  This term we will be focusing on the G (Guardianship) and our learner quality for week one is…

 “Look after your environment”

Sunhats

Your child will need a wide brimmed hat for the duration of Term 1.  Please make sure that this hat is clearly named and they are with your child every day.

Clothing

We ask that the tamariki are sun smart and are dressed appropriately for the conditions.  Covered shoulders please.  Please name all of your children’s clothing.

Sunscreen

Please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school in the morning.  Sunscreen is then offered again at lunchtime.  Please help your tamariki practice putting on sunscreen at home so they know how to when the time comes.

Class Blog

Our class blog can be found here R1 and R2 Blog. This is a great resource for you to use at home. Give your child some time to acquaint themselves with it before starting school.

School Lunches

Follow the link below to create an account to sign up for school lunches. Please keep in mind if you had an account from last year, we have switched providers so you will need to create a new one.

Brainfood

Each morning we have a piece of brainfood to keep us going. Brainfood is a piece of fruit or a vegetable. We ask that you please pack a piece of brainfood in your child’s lunchbox each day that is easily accessible.

Enjoy the long weekend, we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.
